Gobet Production SA

With its large format HP Scitex printer, Gobet Production is opening up fresh avenues for exploration

BARCELONA, 14 December 2007 - HP today announced that its new HP Scitex TJ8300 printer now provides the Geneva print company Gobet Production SA with the possibility of shortening its production cycles, thereby meeting growing demand from its customers. Its new equipment is also enabling the company to broaden the range of services it offers, and especially to add outdoor displays.

Gobet Production's two founders, Yvan Gobet and Philippe Julliand, quickly recognised the need to stay on top of new technology and trends. They opted for an HP Scitex TJ8300 printer as soon as it came onto the market.

With a maximum production of 400m² per hour, the HP Scitex TJ8300 printer is one of the fastest on the market. Working with HP Scitex TJ100 Supreme lightfast inks, which provide UV protection for up to two years (1), this printer can print on coated and uncoated supports, such as paper, self-adhesive vinyl, canvas, billboards and banners.

Gobet Production SA is currently working on the production of self-adhesive displays and advertising branding for vehicles. The HP Scitex TJ8300 printer, printing at 600 dpi (apparent) at a speed of 100m² per hour has already enabled the company to add high-quality outdoor paper displays to its range of products and services.

"We are now able to compete with large format offset printers on runs of 200 to 300 street poster displays. This means we can now print extensions of a single advertising campaign with, for example, the certainty that vehicle branding and the corresponding outdoor displays will show identical quality and colour", says Yvan Gobet. "HP technology enables us to meet our customer demand, not only for all the projects they currently give us, but also projects planned for the future. "

Gobet recently won a number of high profile orders. Among the large-scale campaigns produced on the HP Scitex TJ8300 printer are the large advertisement decorating the front of one Vevey's shopping centres near Geneva, as well as the bus and tram branding in the city of Geneva.

The excellent advertising for the shopping centre was displayed for three weeks above the main entrance. The problem for Gobet consisted of identifying a support that can be easily stuck onto glass, while allowing light to shine through, and providing a high quality print. The reliability of the HP Scitex printer and its ability to print a consistently high quality on the chosen micro-perforated self-adhesive support contributed to the project being a resounding success. The advertisement was printed on several boards, which were subsequently assembled to form a total surface area of 400m².

The HP Scitex TJ8300 was also used to produce the impressive branding for the La Praille tram system, near Geneva. At Gobet, this type of branding is printed in a number of sections 1.20m x 5m onto an adhesive support that meets the required durability standard. Produced over three days and assembled over the same amount of time by the Gobet Production team, these decorative branding elements are a constant feature of most buses and trams in French-speaking Switzerland.
